more shows in February
By phdrummer | January 19, 2008
We have two contiguous shows in Lansing at Moriarty’s, 802 E. Michigan Ave., on Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16. We’re playing all night (approximately 9:30pm-1:30am), and there’s no cover. Come and see us both nights. Also, for you dart fans, Moriarty’s has a bunch of dartboards–real dartboards, not those crappy electronic ones–just waiting to be used. Chad and I will play you a game of cricket if you so desire.
Here’s a list of our winter gigs. See the blog entries below for details.
-birthday party for Kevin Draper and me (Ted) at Kevin and Lora’s, Sat., Jan. 26, Fremont, MI (BYOB)
-Billy’s Lounge, Wed., Jan. 30, Eastown, Grand Rapids, MI ($3 cover)
-Harvey’s, Sat., Feb. 2, downtown Kalamazoo, MI, (no cover)
-Moriarty’s, Fri. & Sat., Feb. 15-16, Lansing, MI (no cover)

Upcoming January and February shows
By phdrummer | January 10, 2008
Hey all-
We have some new shows to tell you about. On Saturday, Jan. 26, we’re playing a party at our good friends’ Kevin & Lora’s place in Fremont. They live in a converted church that makes for a fantastic venue. It’s a really cool space. The party will be a combined belated birthday party for Kevin and myself (Ted). We both celebrated milestone birthdays in January (three decades for me and four for Kevin); the theme is therefore “We’re turning 70!” Come help us celebrate if you’re in the area. The church/house is at 115 E. Dayton St., parallel to Main St., right across from the police station. Perhaps bring liquid refreshment since this is a party and not a drinking establishment. We’ll probably start playing around 9pm or so.
On the following Wednesday, January 30, we’ll be at Billy’s Lounge in the Eastown section of Grand Rapids. We always have a fantastic time there, and it’s got some of the best sound around (thanks in large part to Rick Tipton), so come out and support.
Finally, on Saturday, Feb. 2, we’re back at the reincarnation of Harvey’s in downtown Kalamazoo. The last show there was a blast, so don’t miss it.
Well, I hope that satiates the musical appetites of all you Willamena fans–three shows in a week!
Oh yeah, and we’re making progress on the record. We’ll be back in the studio in February, if all goes as planned. We’re gonna finish this thing if it kills us (which I really hope it doesn’t because I like playing music an awful lot).
Ted

This weekend (Dec. 14-15): studio and birthday
By phdrummer | December 13, 2007
We’re continuing, slowly but surely, to make progress on the new record that’s been in the works for three years or so. This weekend we’ll be back in the studio laying down portions of two tracks at Broadside Productions in Kalamazoo. This should take us to a grand total of about 11 songs that we’ve recorded so far (in various stages of completion or lack thereof). I can’t guarantee how many tracks will be on the album, but we’d like to record a few more tunes that we believe are worth preserving on tape. Whatever the length, we guarantee a quality product.
Anyway, this Friday, after I lay down my drum tracks, will include a celebration of my three decades on this earth. If you’re going to be in K-zoo and would like to help me celebrate, let me know.
Ted

Winter shows; Feb. 2 at Harvey’s
By phdrummer | December 13, 2007
Well, as many of you know, we’re back on the live show horse. The recent Juke’s and Harvey’s shows were a blast, and we’re looking to keep the shows coming.
We’re taking a short break from shows during late December and early January due to the holidays and vacations (Luke, that lucky SOB, will be in Mexico for half of January while we freeze our butts off in MI). We’ll get back on track during the second half of January, though. We’re currently working on setting up a big party in Newaygo County (the childhood stomping grounds of Chad and myself), a show in GR at the end of January, and some additional shows in February. Our one confirmed show during 2008 so far is–mark your calendars–Saturday, Feb. 2 at Harvey’s in Kalamazoo. No cover, and we’re playing all night. What better to do on a winter weekend?
I’ll keep you updated as more January and February shows are confirmed.

Grand Rapids Press Writes About Willamena Star Treatment
By Chet | November 27, 2007
In an amazingly detailed piece, Rachel Recker of the Grand Rapids Press writes here about the band’s Juke’s show last Saturday and its experiences over the last couple years.
“It’s a party, whether it’s Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo is home; the four of us lived there, but Grand Rapids gives us a great response. Probably our home away from home,” Hendrickson said.
The band has been producing its fourth album for two years. It’s due out in late winter or early spring and will include the four tracks produced in Hoboken.
“This will be our biggest rock album of all of them by far. We’ve really stripped it down. … We wanted to get back to the basics — really work hard on melodies and really just make the songs punch and just have a lot more energy to them,” Hendrickson said.
Read the whole piece.
